How to read and clear fault codes on Caterpillar forklifts. Use software on your laptop called Diagnozer. Locate DLC connector, this is usually found by removing the cup holder near the data plate on the dash, on some models a 16 pin obd2 connector just like on a car might be found as well and will read P codes to be converted.
Also See Caterpillar Fofklift Fault Code Chart.
On your Diagnozer accessible laptop, boot up Diagnozer software and it will prompt you to select a Caterpillar truck model from the list.
When your fork truck model is selected, click on truck status, if any codes are displayed on the dash it will show up on this screen. If you are looking for history codes click on truck history.
If you have repaired the problem on your forklift and need to clear the fault codes, click close and you will have to "change connections" on the truck.
Since you are currently on the VCM data you need to change connection to the ECM data which is where you will find the clear the codes. You CANNOT clear fault codes while in VCM connection.
On the lower drop down tab click on ECM then click OK.
When under ECM data click on active test and this screen will prompt up.
Under "Active Test 8" you will find to "clear diagnostic data", this will clear any fault codes left on the dash, remind you that the fork truck needs to be "on" and have communication to perform this. When you check to make sure the codes are cleared, switch the key on and off and the codes on the dash should go away.
Click YES to confirm the clearing of fault codes.
If the code(s) come back whether they are different or the same, you should diagnose and repair that code.
